A former Microsoft software engineer and co-founder of Buycoins Africa Tomiwa Lasebikan says some Nigerians expatriates are now using bitcoin to circumvent the country’s overvalued exchange rate when sending remittances.

According to Lasebikan, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s fixed exchange rate of $1:380 is robbing recipients 20-30% of their remittance value each time they retrieve funds. At the time of writing, the parallel exchange rate of one dollar to the Naira is 1:480, according to Abokifx.

Russia’s prime minister proposed recognizing crypto as property under the nation’s tax code.

Russian prime minister Mikhail Mishustin has appeared to express support for the further development of the local cryptocurrency market.

At a recent governmental meeting held on Nov. 26, Mishustin proposed the introduction of legal protections for crypto holders in the country in order to contribute to the growth of the new industry.

According to Mishustin, such a framework would develop the industry in a “civilized way so that the owners of such assets can protect their rights and interests,” while at the same time preventing “shadow schemes.”

The contracts will offer traders a longer time horizon for speculating on the digital asset.
 

Bybit announced Thursday that it will roll out a BTC/USD quarterly futures contract on Nov. 30. Two contracts will be offered at launch — BTCUSD1225, settling on Dec. 25, 2020, and BTCUSD0326, which will be settled on March 26, 2021.

Bybit says the new futures contracts have no funding fee, which means traders can hold the position without charge as long as the contracts are still in effect.

Like traditional futures contracts, Bitcoin (BTC) futures allow traders to buy and sell the digital currency at a predetermined price at a specific future date.

A new take on an old investigation potentially sheds light on the whereabouts of Satoshi Nakamoto — at least while he was working on Bitcoin.

A new report has determined that London was the most likely place Satoshi Nakamoto worked on Bitcoin between 2008 and 2010.

Report author Doncho Karaivanov reviewed several factors in order to justify the conclusion, including an analysis of timestamps of Satoshi’s published materials, his use of regional colloquialisms and word spellings, and the fact that The Times headline embedded in the genesis block was specific to England’s print version of the periodical.

Market analysts are attributing Bitcoin’s sudden surge above $19,000 to aggressive demand from financial institutions and leading companies in the United States.

Analysts are pointing to demand from financial institutions and publicly listed companies as the primary forces behind Bitcoin’s (BTC) sudden retest of its all-time highs.

Fresh lows of $16,300 mean that BTC/USD has lost over $3,000 in 24 hours after hitting highs of $19,480.

Bitcoin (BTC) has continued falling on Nov. 26 as selling pressure transforms into the biggest losses — in terms of U.S. dollars — since March.

Data from Cointelegraph Markets and TradingView tracked BTC/USD as it lost support at $17,000 to hit fresh local lows of $16,300.

At press time, a rebound had secured $16,800, but heavy volatility remained. The latest losses continue a downtrend, which began overnight on Wednesday, shortly after Bitcoin hit highs of just below $19,500.

Major cryptocurrency exchange OKEx resumed all withdrawals at 8:00 am UTC on Nov. 26, but users already appear to be pulling out their funds, fast.

 After a five-week-long suspension of all user withdrawals, cryptocurrency exchange OKEx  resumed normal services at 8:00 am UTC on Nov. 26.

Having announced the re-opening last week, OKEx then indicated it would be launching a compensation and rewards program to express its gratitude to customers for holding out during the disruption.

Lithuania’s tax authority has sold the cryptocurrencies it previously seized for 6.4 million euros (approximately $7.6 million). The three cryptocurrencies confiscated were bitcoin, ether, and monero. This was the first time the tax authority sold seized cryptocurrencies.

After hitting highs above 19,500 yesterday, Bitcoin has corrected to 18,200 where it is currently trading.
Market capitalization 539 billion, dominance index 62.3%.
Equity markets showed a slight decline yesterday. The Dow Jones lost 0.58%, the S&P 500 was down 0.16% and the Nasdaq was up 0.48%.
Oil is showing good growth and is approaching 50, gold is at lows, the dollar index is below 92.
Good statistics are coming out for the US (in the private PMI at 5-year highs), and European indicators are breaking through the bottom.
