This week’s wNews unpacks the implications of Biden’s aggressive tax proposal.

Like any politician worth their polyester suit, they’re master negotiators. And rarely do negotiators get everything on their first attempt. Aiming high, however, means that the middle ground will be far more enticing, thanks to an optimistic ask.

Many experts suspect this is precisely what the Biden administration is doing.

Still, the mere idea of a hefty bump in the United States’ income and capital gains taxes has already sent investors running. The S&P 500 dropped 0.9% on the news, trailing behind many high-growth tech stocks. Tesla, arguably this cycle’s biggest winner, dropped nearl ... Read more »

NFT market leads growth in 202

Non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, have taken the digital currency by storm in recent months. So much so that a recent report published by online broker eToro suggests that bitcoin has the potential to destabilize the gold bullion market.

The report took stock of the main movers in the crypto market during the first quarter of 2021 and found that NFTs dominated the landscape. This is in stark contrast to not only the fourth quarter of 2020 but also most quarters in recent memory. This is because bitcoin has been the driving factor and face of digital currencies in the past.

The NFT craze shows how much impact crypto has and its ability to evolve and expand a head-spinnin ... Read more »

Bitcoin’s latest massive price crash in which the asset lost $16,000 in roughly a week could be nothing more than a stepping stone towards new highs, suggested the creator of the popular S2F model. He outlined that BTC could be in the middle of its run, which could take it to the stock-to-flow’s targets of up to $288,000.

‘Nothing Goes Up In a Straight Line’
Looking on a more macro scale, it’s safe to conclude that bitcoin has been in a state of a bull run since early October. A solid confirmation for this comes from the six consecutive months in which the primary cryptocurrency closed in green from less than $14,000 in October to nearly $60,000 in March.

April is historically a bullish month as well for BTC, and it sure seemed that way, at least until a week ago. Taking advantage of the hype ar ... Read more »

Bitcoin may have tumbled nearly 20% from an all-time high of nearly $65,000 it hit just 10 days ago, but that might not make $100,000 by the end of the year any less likely.

In fact, according to one forecaster who has a $100,000 year-end price target for bitcoin, a "healthy" pullback might actually strengthen the bull case.

"We don't see this necessarily as something that's taking us to ... a 2017-type market top," Fundstrat Lead Digital Asset Strategist David Grider told Yahoo Finance on Friday, harkening back to the 2017 top that proceeded an 80% collapse. "But more so as something where the market needs to have a healthy cooling off period before the market can continue forward.&quo ... Read more »

The conversation around bitcoin's environmental threat seems to be escalating as more people call out its impact on the climate.
Chris Larsen, Ripple's co-founder, has suggested bitcoin should surrender its core proof-of-work (PoW) technology that is used in the mining process. He said it should instead use other methods such as proof-of-stake (PoS), federated consensus, or another technology that is yet to be developed.
PoW is an algorithm in the blockchain technology used to confirm bitcoin transactions and produce new blocks on the chain. It is an energy-intensive process, and even a few transactions on the network can have as much of a carbon footprint as driving a gas-powered sedan for 1,000 kilometers.

Bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme and anyone who believes that it’s a hedge against inflation is deluded, Nassim Taleb, a famous author and statistician, has claimed.
Taleb is most renowned as the author behind Black Swan, a book that has been cited as one of the greatest in the past 70 years, in which he predicted a financial crisis.

Nassim Taleb made the scathing remarks in an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box.

This week, we turn our weary locked-down eyes to foreign holidays, and specifically to the airline sector. The idea that vaccines could bring the virus under control have made investors – and would-be travellers – optimistic, and the share prices of many airlines are back on the way up. Matthew Partridge takes an in-depth look at the sector and picks the best-placed shares to buy now.

In the podcast this week, Merryn talks to one of our favourite global economists, Dambisa Moyo. She talks about the future role of corporations vs governments at a time when public trust in big companies – not necessarily fairly, says Dambisa – is not particularly high. She also has a lot to say about the economic recovery (or lack of) from the pandemic, the strength of China’s economy, and the prospects for the UK and Europe. L ... Read more »

Is Bitcoin’s bull run over? This crypto analyst doesn't think so.

Bitcoin’s (BTC) price has declined over the past day or so, falling from highs above $60,000 to below $50,000. That, however, does not necessarily mean the asset’s bull run is over, according to a well-known crypto analyst, PlanB.

“Nothing goes up in a straight line,” PlanB said in a Tweet on Friday.

“#Bitcoin has gone up 6 months in a row, until this month. This looks like the mid-way dip that we also saw in 2013 and 2017.”

PlanB is known in the crypto industry for his Bitcoin Stoc ... Read more »

Bitcoin recently had its 10th anniversary and the last 10 years have birthed an alternate market of crypto assets. The last 10 years have also triggered polarizing debates about whether cryptocurrency is money or commodities.

On Wall Street, cryptocurrencies still generate mixed reactions. Some people believe that cryptocurrency is the future of money and that the token economy surrounding decentralized applications could potentially coexist with traditional Wall Street assets. In contrast, some people believe that cryptocurrencies are scams or at best, speculative bets for thrill-seeking traders and investors.

*None of this is financial advice! Please do your own research before buying bitcoin.*

Since the historic, bloody event of March 12th, 2020, when the price of bitcoin dropped 50% in 1 day, its price has been in a constant uptrend. Going from ~$3,800 to $64,000 in roughly 1 year, bitcoin is in a historic bull run. Many people are making profit in bitcoin, and you’re wondering how you can get in on the fun.
