Don't panic, the fact that you can now mine Bitcoin using a Commodore 64 doesn't mean there's going to be a world shortage of 8-bit C64's, because it somehow turns out not to be profitable. We are due to be swallowed up by the Sun in around seven to eight billion years, which means it will be nothing if not plentiful.

The YouTube channel, 8-Bit Show And Tell (via Sweclockers), has shown the Bitcoin Miner 64 software running on a standard Commodore 64. And, I'll be honest, my eyeballs got a little moist at the sight of the beautiful old grey slab of personal computing joy.

They note that the software they're using is written in C, but th ... Read more »

The giant of Africa seems to be on its way to becoming the giant of Bitcoin in Africa, as Nigeria ranks number one in the search rate of Bitcoin by regional Google search volume. The search volume from five of the leading states begins above 60%. These states include Ekiti, Enugu, Bayelsa, Anambra, and Delta, the leading state with a 100% search rate.

It is interesting to note that the statistics are not very different from the ones recorded in 2020, when Nigeria emerged first in Bitcoin searches, with Delta State staying on the frontline.

Is Facebook holding Bitcoin secretly?
Among these influencers are Jason A. Williams, partner at Morgan Creek Digital, British entrepreneur and investor Alistair Milne, and Mira Christanto, senior research analyst at Messari.

The latter has assumed that the current rise of Bitcoin back above the $53,000 level may be due to Facebook buying Bitcoin, whereas the recent plunge below $48,000 was due to Tesla selling 10 percent of its BTC holdings.

Elon Musk's Tesla made a strong start to the year with profits up and record deliveries of its electric cars.

It came despite production hurdles due to a global shortage of computer chips that has also hit other carmakers.

Mr Musk said the chip shortage caused "supply chain challenges", although that "particular problem" had eased.

Profits for the first three months of the year were $438m (£315m), up from $16m last year, bolstered by sales of Bitcoin and environmental credits.

But the profits were dented by a $299m payment to Mr Musk as part of a controversial compensation plan struck in 2018.

Revenue rose to $10.4bn, from $6bn in the same quarter last year.

No two ways about it: Bitcoin had a rough couple of days over the weekend.

After an eventful few weeks – including a monster Wall Street debut with Coinbase Global Inc.'s (NASDAQ: COIN) direct listing – cryptocurrencies stumbled at the end of last week.

The drop was pretty significant, and sudden, too.

But to put your mind at ease, I'm not worried about these reversals in the long run, especially not after seeing what the market did after prices dropped.

Let's go over the real story of what happened, one chart that shows where the buying opportunities are, and most importantly, where we're headed in the next few days…

After topping $55,100 on Thursday afternoon, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies began a steep slide that more or less didn't end until Sunday night. We&# ... Read more »
